Performance development WEEKLY GROUP CLASS - $150 mo.

Thursdays - weekly at 6:00-7:30 pm- This is an ongoing weekly class - jump in anytime

This longstanding weekly group class consists of a TON OF JAMMING.  Learn cutting edge, skill building techniques that are applied in a fun, relaxed jam setting. Subjects covered are jam etiquette (so important), rhythm, dynamics, chord vocabulary, scale knowledge and application, strum patterns and picking techniques.

The first half hour is a review of the charts that you will be working on for that class.  For example, the key, the feel, the arrangement, solo order and dynamics.  The last hour will consist of jamming to the selected tunes.  Your instructor will facilitate, offering critique and guidance where needed.  Jammers Etiquette is hugely important when playing in an ensemble and we will frequently review etiquette do’s and don'ts so that each student fully understands.  Knowing and implementing proper jam etiquette will give you a great advantage in any jam situation.

As part of the class, a LIVE JAM with actual stage experience for the Band Performance class members is held every first Thursday at a nearby local venue in SE Portland.  Robbie Laws has been hosting long running and very popular local jams for many years and has a lot to share to get you comfortable and confident at any jam.

You can start the jam class at any time by contacting our office.  Class size is kept minimal to maintain plenty of individual attention and coaching.

I have known Robbie for almost 30 years. He is an outstanding musician and great guy.  I’m taking lessons from Robbie and find his personal touch to each lesson beneficial.  I’m an old dog learning new tricks.

Robbie Laws is not only a fine guitar artist but also a very intuitive teacher. Over time he leads you along a musical path that, at first, you don’t even know exists but ultimately becomes natural and familiar. A blossoming of your own innate style.
— Skip Trantow

Robbie is good at listening and suggesting direction.  He has a strong musical knowledge base that lends well to his ability to teach.  It’s one thing to know your stuff, but he has a way of sharing the information that is remarkable.
