Learn, Jam, Build Skills

It's all about the Jam!

JAMMERS LOUNGE

This longstanding weekly group class consists of a TON OF JAMMING with a LIVE RHYTHM SECTION. Oh yeah!  Learn cutting edge, skill building techniques that are applied in a fun, relaxed jam setting. Subjects covered are jam etiquette (so important), rhythm, dynamics, chord vocabulary, scale knowledge and application, strum patterns and picking techniques.

The first half hour is a review of the charts that you will be working on for that class.  For example, the key, the feel, the arrangement, solo order and dynamics.  The last hour will consist of jamming to the selected tunes along with a live rhythm section (bass & drums).  Your instructor will facilitate, offering critique and guidance where needed.  Jammers Etiquette is hugely important when playing in an ensemble and we will frequently review etiquette do’s and don'ts so that each student fully understands.  Knowing and implementing proper jam etiquette will give you a great advantage in any jam situation.

As part of the class, a LIVE JAM with actual stage experience for the Jammers Lounge class members is held every first Thursday at a nearby local venue in SE Portland.  Robbie Laws has been hosting long running and very popular local jams for many years and has a lot to share to get you comfortable and confident at any jam.

You can start the jam class at any time by contacting our office.  Class size is kept minimal to maintain plenty of individual attention and coaching.

Thursdays - weekly from 6:00 - 7:30 pm

Location - Robbie Laws School of Guitar Pdx - SE 9th & Hawthorne, Portland, OR  (please pre-register)

Cost:  $150 month

Robbie Laws is a real grass roots blues artist.  I’ve attended the Jammers Lounge group sessions for about two years and have found Robbie to be fun, inspiring, creative and very supportive.

boutique sessions

For the guitar players seeking a unique experience far beyond the basic guitar lesson.

boutique sessions

Imagine having an entire lesson course created just for you with hands on coaching from an experienced, master guitarist.

Most lessons are based on a specific regimen or style of teaching.  While this works well for a lot of folks, some want to focus in on the development of more specific ideas, goals and projects that are tailored to what you want to accomplish within a period of time.

So, let's cut to the chase.  What is it you want to do?  A Boutique Session course may include (but not limited to) some of the following examples:

  • Develop your own style
  • Work on your technique
  • Expand an idea
  • Improve your songwriting skills - backing tracks & charts can be provided
  • Record yourself with helpful critiques and suggestions
  • The Signature Series - covering very specific artist styles
  • Workout Sessions - coaching to take you from good to great

You'll receive an initial free consultation (phone or in person) from Robbie Laws to discuss your goals, objectives and your individual lesson plan based on what you want.

Boutique Sessions are 90 minutes per session.

Cost: 3 sessions @ $390 / 6 sessions @ $730 (discounted)

Robbie is good at listening and suggesting direction.  He has a strong musical knowledge base that lends well to his ability to teach.  It’s one thing to know your stuff, but he has a way of sharing the information that is remarkable.
